Taken from an article highlighting the event:
Before the clock struck 5:30 pm on March 09, 2008, Tibungco Substation was energized, officially becoming the 22nd Substation of Davao Light. This project was launched as part of its Major Capex for the year on March 2007, with the objective of accommodating the load growth in the northern area and at the same time increases DLPC’s systems reliability. Its planning and initial design phase began as early as last quarter of 2006. Its construction however started only on May of 2007 as it has to hurdle many obstacles in order to commence.
Spearheading the project, on his baptism of fire as the project manager is AVP for Engineering Ronald Chan. He was ably supported by Planning and Design Engineer Leo Lungay of PSDD, who acted as the Project Engineer, with the highly revered Nick Rubia as consultant.
Assembly of Power Transformer as well as grounding works was done by Nanding Refuerzo, Lando Lucena and Ramon Escalante. Constructions were supervised by Lope Tingzon and Michael Hernandez. Relaying and Protection by Dindo Pantinople, Ryanel Pongos and Jonathan Medalla. Controls and Wiring by Joe Mascardo and Ben Castro with Allan Calag of PSDD. Taking care of civil works are Jesse Talavera and his ingenious crew of Civil Engineers, Hanford Menchavez, Oscar Amigleo, Rey Ann Montezo and Anchie Bacanaya. Support groups from departments such as PSPD, TND, MMD, TSD, ASD, SOD, PMD, MPD among others completed the cast.
This Substation which features a 33 MVA Transformer and introduced innovations such as the use of magnetic actuator mechanism for the circuit breakers and Pre-wired control panels.
The Tibungco Substation was inaugurated on March 29, 2008 in a brief but meaningful ceremony. It is now ready to serve our customers within the northern area of our franchise. Another testament of what we are capable of doing. A symbol of brighter things to come as we grow, as a whole.
